W&L vs. Hampden-Sydney

December 2, 2010

W&L was victorious on the field and the LA Chapter was there (virtually) to cheer them on. While the Generals beat up on Hampden-Sydney in a 38-27 win in Lexington, alumni in the Los Angeles area gathered at Q’s Billiard Club in Santa Monica over cocktails and appetizers. The game was streamed live and viewed on a large screen projector as well as several HDTVs.

W&L Football Continues March to ODAC Title Game

November 2, 2010

This past weekend W&L Football shredded the record books in a 49-14 win at Catholic (full story).  They amassed a season-best 604 yards of total offense and set new Old Dominion Athletic Conference records for rushing yards in a game (496), rushing yards in a season (3,008) and rushing touchdowns in a season (33) in the victory at Catholic University on Friday evening.

As part of those game successes, the team swept the ODAC Player of the Week Awards as well (full story).  The Generals’ entire offensive line, comprised of senior Greg Kurkis (Roswell, Ga./Westminster), junior John Fitzgibbons (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville), sophomore Mike Stefanelli (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and first-years Bobby Jones (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) and Connor Hollenbeck (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) earned offensive player of the week recognition for W&L’s 49-14 win over Catholic University on Friday evening.  Additionally, sophomore defensive back Jake Pelton (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) was named the defensive player of the week for the third time in the last four weeks.

Finally, this coming Saturday the Generals take on Hampden-Sydney for what amounts to the ODAC title (full story).  In 118 seasons of football, Washington and Lee has won just seven conference championships,  including just three ODAC titles in 35 years.  However, a win against Hampden-Sydney would give W&L its second conference title in the last five seasons.
Below is a listing of the Generals’ conference championships over the years:

Washington and Lee All-Time Conference Championships
1914 – South Atlantic Champions
1934 – Southern Conference Champions
1950 – Southern Conference Champions
1962 – College Athletic Conference Champions
1981 – Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champions
1985 – Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champions
2006 – Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champions

So, make sure to come out and cheer for the Generals this Saturday at Q’s in Santa Monica; RSVP here!

W&L Football vs. Hampden-Sydney

October 6, 2010

Please save the date to join the Washington and Lee University Los Angeles Alumni Chapter in cheering on the Generals as they take on Hampden-Sydney College at Wilson Field on November 6, 2010.

Kick-off will be at 10:00 a.m. Pacific at a venue to be determined. We are currently speaking with a number of possible venues on the Westside, but we would welcome any suggestions for venues from the Chapter. In order to televise the game the venue must have a television or projector that can connect to a computer, as most games are streamed over the Internet through America One.

Please contact Patrick White ’96 at (415) 205-4997 or with any suggestions.

We look forward to seeing you on November 6th and Go Generals!

UPDATE (10/15/2010): We’ve finalized the location and will be at Q’s Billiard Club in West LA.  Q’s is a great sports bar that is located on Wilshire Blvd near the 405. We will have our own space reserved with a large screen TV andsurround sound to enjoy the game. Q’s also has a large menu and a full bar, and the Chapter will provide snacks for the game.

There’s an online RSVP form on the W&L Alumni website here:
